Banish Blogger's Block

So.  Blogging.  Can’t live with it; can’t live without it.

Some days, blogging brings immense joy into my life.  It offers an outlet for words in my head that just need to be free.  Blogs are places to see and be seen.  Blogging is a way to connect with the world—to connect with people I would have never met otherwise.  Often, the time I spend blogging can be the highlight of my day (or at the very least, the most enlightening part).

But holy heaven, is it ever a killjoy sometimes.

There are days when I face my blog and feel like my head will explode for sheer lack of brilliancy.  Have you ever felt that?  A writer’s block of such extreme measures—and the corresponding pressure to come up with something amazing—that the only solution seems to be deleting the whole thing and starting fresh?  No?  It’s only me?  Well, maybe I’m just not cut out for this, then…

…But if you have felt that way, then trust me: you aren’t alone.  {Even if it’s just the two of us, at least our misery has company, right?}

As far as I see it, there are two solutions to this dreadful case of blogger’s block: 1) Take a wee break and come back to your blog refreshed, with a list full of new post ideas, or 2) Chug along right through it.

Of the two solutions, I prefer the second—to chug along and work it out.  See, when I take a break from blogging—even if it’s one day of not posting when I normally do—my readers seem to lose all faith and confidence in my competence.  (Confidence in competence?  I came up with that myself, thanks.  I know, I know…you can hardly believe my genius, right?)  But seriously.  When I skip a day of posting on a day I would normally write, it takes a solid week of faithful posting to get my stats back to normal.  I hate playing catch-up like that.

That’s why I always try my hardest to work through a blogger’s block even when I have absolutely zero inspiration.  Every day can’t be a brilliant day (or maybe it can for you, in which case, don’t let the door hitcha on the way out!), but every day can have a lovely picture, or happy thought, or…something.  If it takes four “meh” posts to work my way toward one moment of glory, well…so be it.  That moment of glory is, after all, glorious.  And worth it.

What about you?  How do you cope with blogger’s block?  Are there more solutions than my two ideas?  Am I doing it all wrong?

I’d love to hear your suggestions—this is, after all, a blogger’s blog.

This is a blogger's blog.

{A blog about blogging.}

This is a blogger’s blog.  It is a blog for anyone who is interested in being a better blogger.  We’re embarking on a quest to turn bad bloggers into tolerable ones, and good bloggers into earth-shattering ones.  We’re uniting together toward a central ideal: to improve our Quality of Blog.

We will update daily with useful tips, helpful pointers, and brilliant ideas that should—if you have the gumption of even a horny toad—help you improve your own space in the digital universe.  Of course, we’ll keep it simple as often as we can, because, let’s face it…life is complicated enough as it is. The point of this blog is to make blogging easier, happier, and smarter—not harder.

Feel free to look around, and if you like what you see, drop us a line to request initiation into the Order.
